A Playful Pilgrimage

In this documentary photograph, Mark traveled to the forgotten corners of the Kham region of Tibet, part of a philanthropic medical expedition. On the side of the road was a pair of vans carrying young monks on the long journey of a pilgrimage to Lhasa. As there is virtually no traffic on these roads, when the philanthropic team saw these vans pulled over, the two groups met. The young monk in the photograph brings themes of playful innocence and shy curiosity to this image.
